Pros and Cons + Looks good, feels good + Bluesign Certified + Thermoregulating lining – Sleeves felt a tad short New to outerwear this season, Wild Rye—a women-owned brand known for its mountain bike apparel—made an impressive entrance into the ski world with the Heyburn Jacket. The brand’s first-ever ski shell hits the sweet spot between performance and polish: it looks great, feels great, and rides even better. At $549, the three-layer shell isn’t cheap, but it’s competitively priced for its premium construction and thoughtful design. Testers praised the comfortable, easy-to-move-in fit and the thermoregulating Trizar Print lining (developed by NASA) that helps balance warmth and breathability. While it’s tough to quantify how much the lining affected overall comfort, our testers stayed dry and warm through long days of lift laps and backcountry missions alike.

Key materials: polyester/Spandex blend, NASA-developed Trizar technology Comfort rating: 9/10 Breathability rating: 10/10 Warmth rating: 8/10 Pros and Cons + Incredibly breathable + Quick-drying and odor-free + Made in the U.S.A – Inconsistent sizing Hunting brand Forloh is a new addition to our women’s base layer test. Testers complimented the comfort and performance of this top and bottom, even winning over one who typically prefers natural fibers to synthetics. Made with a NASA-developed technology designed to keep astronauts comfortable in fluctuating temperatures, the Deep Space captures body heat and radiates it throughout the layer. As you sweat, its quick-drying material wicks moisture from the skin. “It was surprisingly soft and supple,” said our category manager, who tested it in variable conditions in Banff. “It kept me warm on a couple of super-cold mornings, but also breathed well as the day warmed up.”

Don’t let the soft hand of the Freefall fool you—this is a serious shell, tested by our Ski Pros on the steepest lines of Highland Bowl. The three-layer construction is built for storm days, with a supple stretch fabric finished in a nontoxic, breathable DWR that moves quietly with you. Inside, Trizar® Technology, a heat-management system originally used on spaceships to regulate temperature during atmospheric re-entry, reflects body heat back where you need it, keeping you warm without overheating. Side vents release heat the moment you don’t. A fleece-lined collar seals in comfort, striking that balance between protection and ease that defines Aspen Collection outerwear. Pair with the Freefall 3L Pant for the perfect kit.
